And so it begins!
I know I haven’t posted anything health/fitness related in a while. While I love this blog, my life does not revolve around it. I believe whole heartedly in living life instead of just regurgitating every second of it.
Things are changing around here, and I’m not just talking about my physique. I decided to give intermittent fasting a shot. I already use macro nutrients to dictate my food intake, but I wanted something more.
Today started out exactly how I expected it to. I was ravenously hungry until I had a couple of bites of food right after my workout. It was such a strange sensation that I don’t think I can put it into words. From a nutritional viewpoint, there are certain nutrients that can be absorbed through your mouth. For example, you might have heard of people who suddenly feel better after eating a few saltines or a bite of a candy bar. This is because your saliva breaks carbohydrates down into sugar and absorbed through the mouth into the blood stream. (This is dumbed down a bit, but this is the gist of what you need to know.) This is what happened to me. I actually feel full after going 14 1/2 hours without food.
I did notice a few side effects, though it is impossible to determine whether or not it was due to IF or lack of sleep. My greatest issue today was mental clarity. I felt fuzzy and tired up until my post workout meal. After eating I am still tired, but I am reasonably alert.
I may not have chosen the best day to start this, but I decided to continue with my plan. I was up for a good portion of the night because our “rescue” kitten was playing ping pong in our bathtub.
What are you doing to challenge yourself or change up your routine?
